More love needed

One of my all-time favorite skits from SNL is the ‘More Cowbell’ skit. Tina Fey as Sarah Palin is also right on top. While more cowbell may be necessary, I say we need more love in this world; build people up not apart or tear them down for self gain.

Here’s a link just in case you need a refresher.

SNL More Cowbell Skit

I’m really disturbed by the amount of violence in this world and lack of respect for other human beings. One cannot turn on the TV without hearing about violence. Heck even the presidential campaign is ridden with violence.

How did we, as a civilized nation, get to this point?  Many people have lost respect for others. It is shown in the clothes people wear; I know way too much about people’s choice in underwear. I mean you cannot walk down a street without see someone’s undies as their pants are almost below their bum. I’m not talking about a little peak of just the waistband, I’m talking well below that band.

And the gun violence. Since when is it ok to settle an argument, no matter how petty, with a gun? Here’s a video of an incident that recently occurred on the Courtney Campbell Causeway. It is the main road that links Tampa to Clearwater and just happens to be my route to work, or anything in Tampa for that matter.

Road Rage

In Florida there is a law best known as Stand your Ground. Most people know about the George Zimmerman and Trayvonne case. Others may have heard about the loud  music case or even the theater case. My belief is that all of these deaths were unwarranted. If the person with the gun could have shown just a little of compassion, some common sense, and just minded his/her own business the outcome could, should have, been very different.

And why is there a battle in the US to determine which bathroom you are qualified to use/not use?  Maybe I don’t see why it is such a hot topic. I mean I’ve used a corn field, a prairie , a road ditch, a falling down Out-House, etc. I’m not trying to devoid anyone’s right, but just wonder why it is a necessity to make sure individuals use a particular restroom.  Will we see restroom monitors in the future?

6 months in jail
This isn’t far fetched as there is a report about a person knowing a person as transgender, following them into a restroom that they identify with and then reporting that person. Or people having to prove their sex before entering?  And I can see our court system getting inundated just because someone thought a ‘man’ used a ‘women’s’ restroom.

Restroom Cop

And then there is this article too Target Restroom

I don’t know about you, but when nature calls and I must use a public restroom, I’m a) in a hurry, b) I only use as a last resort, and c) am more worried about catching germs than I am about having a male in the stall next to me!  Make restrooms unisex; women would never be standing in long lines again, or if they do, so too will men. Now that’s equality for all!

I don’t condone discrimination in any way, but debating public restroom use to me is taking away from life threatening issues. We as a nation should focus on equal rights, homelessness, drug abuse, the economy etc; the big picture. I think focusing on restroom use is ludicrous. It does nothing more than to divide further.  Personal choice should be upheld when the community at large doesn’t suffer. Of course there are people, bad people, who could do bad things but focus on them as bad people, not stereotyping a community such as LGBT as being bad.

Society has lost most patience and compassion for others and I just don’t understand why. Respect should be provided to others as you never fully understand the situation they are in. The Nebrasksa state motto is ‘equity before law’; I think we all could stand to be more equitable in our day to day activities.

So today try to spread the love, show compassion and respect to others. Be nice and non-offensive and courteous in everything you do, and the image you project. Make someone smile today; it’s contagious. Just maybe your effort may make a change in their life. Be the change you want to see in this world.

As Micheal Jackson sang:

I’m starting with the man in the mirror

I’m asking him to change his ways

And no message could have been any clearer

If you want to make the world a better place

Take a look at yourself, and then make a change
