As suggested in the comments of “Know before you Go”, one way to get ahead of the lines at a TSA (Transportation Security Administration) check point is to get Pre-Checked by the TSA. Pre-check allows the holders, and in some instances travelling companions, to go through a special line that does not require removing shoes, belts, and light jackets plus not being required to follow the 3-1-1 rule (though I’ve NEVER complied with this one).
One must fill out an application and present, in person for an appointment. Additionally, the person must pay an application fee of $85 for a card that is valid for 5 years. The downside is not all airlines offer TSA Pre-Check and it is for domestic travel (except for flights to/from Canada on Air Canada.
As mentioned by SassyInfoManiac, some travel centered credit cards, offer a statement credit to compensate you for the $85 fee.
